World Energy OutlookThe World Energy Outlook (WEO) is a yearly energy forecast published by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the International Energy Agency (IEA). The 2006 report urges the international community to invest heavily in energy efficiency in order to avoid a global economic crisis. Governments will need to invest at least $20 billion into the energy infrastructure over the next 25 years to meet the growing worldwide demand for electronic technologies and gadgets. Low Gas Prices = Demand Increase

Gas PricesAmericans are celebrating plunging gasoline prices by hitting the roads. After barely rising during the summer months, gasoline demand rose swiftly in September, the American Petroleum Institute said Wednesday. Deliveries of gasoline to U.S. service stations, a proxy for demand, rose more than 4% in September from the same month a year ago. That number was boosted by the comparison with September 2005, when Hurricanes Katrina and Rita interrupted deliveries. But even excluding the hurricane effects, gas demand likely was up approximately 2% in September, API economist Ron Planting says. That's about triple the average increase over the prior six months and the biggest gain since August 2005. » Source: USA Today ...

The End of Industrial Expansion

Industrial ExpansionWorld oil production has reached peak capacity. We are now facing the downside of the peak oil curve and the consequences on world energy markets will be more than uncomfortable. The decrease in production capacity means we no longer have the ability to compensate for minor fluctuations in oil markets. The major crude oil suppliers are all reaching the breaking point, which will spell the inevitable end of industrial expansion. Alternative energy technologies will not help industrial markets to expand, only slow the decline. The problem lies in our ability to comprehend this looming catastrophe and act quickly enough to avoid a complete economic collapse. » Source: Daily Reckoning Against the background of everything else happening in the financial markets ...

World Oil Prices Will Double by 2030

Crude Oil PricesAccording to ExxonMobil, global energy prices will most certainly grow up to 50% by the year 2030. This price increase is estimated to occur due to the pace of expanding economies in developing countries, and the rate of worldwide population growth. "Perhaps most significant, we anticipate energy demand in developing Asia-Pacific to grow at 3.2 per cent annually, increasing to one-third of the world's total." This is an amount "equivalent to the energy demand of North America and Europe combined, the US-based oil corporation says in a booklet on "The Next Quarter-Century of Energy" released here recently. » Source: Bernama.com Every day, the world consumes about 230 million barrels of ...

Dead Sea Oil Discovery

Dead SeaA possibly lucrative oil supply has been discovered in the dead sea, according to The Genco Group. Company officials believe the discovery could supply from 4 to 6 million barrels of oil. The oil was discovered at a depth of 2000 meters, and is estimated to have a potential value of $300,000,000. Originally exploration of the region's oil supplies were put on hold as it was not thought to be of economic value. Higher global oil prices have encouraged a more innovative approach to oil exploration, making this new discovery an encouraging reality. Studies are still being conducted to determine the actual feasability of oil drilling in the area. » Source: Jerusalem Post Oil has been ...

Western Oil Supplies at Risk

A former government adviser has warned it is "only a matter of time" before BP or Shell faces a bid from a Russian state-owned group such as Gazprom which could threaten western oil supplies. Professor Peter Odell, an energy economist, says ExxonMobil is also vulnerable to a Chinese takeover as the large UK and American stock-listed oil groups lose their influence in global markets. » Source: Guardian Unlimited "A Chinese bid for Exxon and or Chevron and or a Russian bid for Shell and or BP, backed by funds provided by the wealthy member countries of Opec seem likely to be only a matter of time. Global Economic Growth at Peak says IMF

Global economic growth is at risk of peaking because of high oil prices and rising protectionist sentiment, warned Rodrigo de Rato, the International Monetary Fund’s managing director, on Tuesday. “The global growth cycle may be close to its peak,” Mr de Rato said in his opening statement at the joint IMF and World Bank plenary session in Singapore. “The best hope for continued high growth lies in further increases to international trade. If this does not happen, the outlook is less encouraging.” » Source: Financial Times Mr de Rato also warned of a continued risk that current account imbalances will unwind in a disorderly way. “There is a growing risk that protectionist sentiment will overwhelm good sense. If it does, all of the other risks loom larger.” The IMF chief urged developed and emerging countries to renew their commitment to multilateralism and resume the ...

China Japan Oil Rivalry

Japan needs friends who are rich in natural resources, and Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi made no bones about what he wanted from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan when he became the first Japanese premier to visit the two countries last month. The country is hardly alone, however, in looking to parts of the former Soviet Union to meet its energy needs from new sources, and indeed, rivalry among East Asian nations may well intensify as they compete to woo the region. Only days after Koizumi left the region last week, China National Petroleum Corp., China`s largest oil producer, said that together with Korea National Oil Corp., Malaysia`s Petronas, Lukoil of Russia, and local group Uzbekneftegaz, it had obtained a 20-percent stake in a joint oil and gas exploration project in Uzbekistan`s Aral Sea extending about 10,000 square kilometers that potentially has 8 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. » Source: M&C News Each ...
